Solar Panels are becoming more popular as people are seeking alternative energy sources in an attempt to reduce their carbon footprint and reduce their bills.
However, they are expensive and can be easily damaged or their efficiency reduced by problematic pest birds.
Solar Panels provide perfect areas for pest birds such as Feral Pigeons, Wood Pigeons and homeless racing pigeons to roost and rear their young.
The space between the panels and the roof provides them with security, warmth, and stability to create their nests whilst being protected from the elements and other predators.
Once you have a bird problem within your solar panel the effects can be very annoying and potentially expensive. Persistent scratching and noises throughout can affect your rest.
Good proofing not only prolongs the life of the solar panels but it also prevents loss of their efficiency by reducing the build-up of dirt and guana, the acidic properties of the droppings causes corrosion and speeds up structural damage. Heavy infestation is one of the leading causes of water damage from gutters due to the large amounts of waste which subsequently accumulates within the gutters and downpipes. Nesting debris also poses a significant fire risk as this material is very dry, combine this with the cables under the panels this leads to an increased chance of problems.
Pigeon faeces are proven to carry many harmful organisms which can lead to a number of serious and life threatening conditions. In particular, birds carry Cryptococcosis, Histoplasmosis and Psittacosis. Debris and fouling under the panels and within the nests also attract flies which can also penetrate into your house causing further distress.
Dependant upon the type, quantity and location of solar panels along with the style of roof where they are located there are several options available to you. Our technicians can advise and fit all types available.
All our products have been designed by professionals for professionals resulting in industry recognised products and a permanent solution to you bird problems.
Q. How long does it take to install ?
A. It depends on a lot of factors such as access, coverage, type of proofing being used.
Q. Is it expensive?
A. This also depends upon the same factors as above.
Q. How long does it last for?
A. Unfortunately there is no easy answer, the longevity of the product will depend on environmental factors such as heat, wind, sun etc. Each product comes with a manufacturer warranty.
Q. Does it affect the panel warranty?
A. No, the products do not require the technician to alter the structure of the panel.
Q. How often do they need cleaning?
A. Modern solar panels are designed to be self cleaning, however the increased mess which is generated by nesting birds can often reduce the effectiveness of the panels. Cavendish Pest Control can assist in regular cleaning or one off treatments.
Q. Can Cavendish Pest Control clean the panels?
A. Yes, utilising soft brushes and specialist chemicals which not only remove the bird mess but neutralise and deodorise the poisonous guano.
